Calvin was an all-star player for the Sandies Basketball team and after high school signed to play for the Angelina College Roadrunners in Lufkin, TX. After he completed his 2 years at the junior college, he signed to play basketball for Drake University, Iowa and in 1990-1991 he became an All-Time Letter Winner for the university.
