Summer played her Junior and Senior years for the Grapeland Sandiette Softball team where she was named All-State Pitcher and District MVP.  She posted a 45-20 record with 577 strikeouts in her career with the Sandiettes. 

After high school she signed with the University of Houston Lady Cougars where she pitched for all 4 seasons.  She was awarded Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll twice and American All-Academic Team twice.  All 4 years that she played for UH the softball team posted the highest team GPA in women's sports.
