My name is Kirk M. Spruiell
and I am originally from Odessa, TX. God has blessed
me. Had I remained in Odessa, I would not have met my wife of thirty
years, Deborah. We have two grown children, Jennifer married to Greg
Hart with our grandson Maddox and Michael who as of now is still a
bachelor.
I went into the
USMC immediately out of high school and was fortunate enough to have my
orders to Vietnam terminated by President Nixon. I was trained as a
mechanic on aviation guns and that set my career, I loved repairing
things.
I spent a year in
Dallas, TX, after being discharged from the Marines. I drove a truck and
really could not stand being in Dallas. So, we moved out to Odessa.
There I spent the next 6 years working at various oil field related
jobs, finally ending up on the drilling rigs. I spent 2 years working
for Parker Drilling in Thailand. I was able to take my family with me
and we lived in Perth, Western Australia. After coming home, the oil well drilling was in a steady
downward spiral and I turned back to equipment repair. The oil field
though continued too decline and we were forced to moved back to Dallas.
I started
repairing refrigeration equipment and ended up working for Dallas ISD. I
decided to give the oil field another try only this time in East Texas.
We moved to Montabla thinking that everything was going alright. It
turned out to be another non-lasting boom and I quickly changed
employment to a Correctional Officer for TDCJ-ID. I worked at the
Michael's unit, the Chase Moore unit, and the Coffield unit. A person
with a repair mentality has no business working in a correctional
facility. So back to the oil field, I went. After about six months, it
went down again.
I
went back to the air conditioning and refrigeration profession. I worked
it until 2000. I, then, was injured to the point that heavy lifting and
pulling were not possible. I retrained to repair computers and networks
at Trinity Valley Community College Palestine campus. It only took me 30 years to get my Associates
Degree, but in May of 2002 I graduated. In November of the same year, I
was hired by TVCC to take care of the computers on the Palestine campus.
I worked for TVCC for 4 years and gain a tremendous amount
of practical experience in the networking field. In the summer of 2006,
I was able to work a little part-time at Grapeland ISD. In October of
2006, I was offered and accepted the position as the Network
Administrator.
