Message From The Superintendent

Dear Parents,

I am saddened by the recent tragedies in schools across America.  These incidents remind us that violence can occur anywhere and that we must be prepared to respond.  As a parent and grandparent myself, I feel strongly about the need to protect all our children.

Let me assure you that Grapeland ISD spends an appropriate amount of time and funds on emergency preparedness.  We have an Emergency Response Plan in place that was updated this year, and as the district's safety coordinator, I continue to receive training to help all our students.  In turn, I will update teachers and staff in measures to protect our students.

We also recently purchased three (3) AEDs (heart defibrillators) for the emergency care of any student needing this service.  Every school in Texas will soon be required to purchase these, but we have met the need already.

I make these statements to insure parents and guardians that the safety of your children each day is our greatest concern.  We at Grapeland ISD will do all in our power to insure their safety.

Sincerely,

Buddy Sumrall
