Message From The Superintendent

January 25, 2007

Happy New Year!! I hope that everyone had a great Christmas and New Year. The weather has been a little cold and damp lately but nothing stops the Sandies and Sandiettes . The
boys basketball team is undefeated in district play and the girls remain in contention for a play-off spot.
How about the power lifting team? Though few in number , they have made a great showing at the meets. Baseball and softball teams have started practice and tennis is in full swing. I am always proud of our students for the way they compete, but I am even more proud of the example they present with their good behavior and sportsmanship. I tip my hat to our athletes and their coaches.

The Gates Awards were presented again this week and congratulations to those winners in the junior high school. And as always our sincere thanks to Tom and Vickie Gates for their generosity and commitment to our students.

February is near and with it comes Valentines Day. Grapeland Elementary will have its annual Valentine dances with the Mother/Son dance scheduled for February 2 and the Father/Daughter dance to follow on February 3. Only Grapeland Elementary School students in grades 4, 5, and 6 are allowed with their parent or guardian. Thanks to the elementary PTO for sponsoring this event.
Valentine parties will be on February 14th .

New Beta Club inductees include Ruston Boyd, Judy Rodriguez, and Chasity Huff, Congratulations to these students.

There will be a luncheon on January 31 for students in grades 7-12 who have perfect attendance. This is very important since part of school funding is based on average daily attendance.

A reminder to students to work hard in class, be prepared for each class, and get ready for the upcoming TAKS tests. Nothing is more important than your education and later is sometimes too late. Be a winner in the classroom just as you are every where else. Parents, please encourage and help your children to be the best they can be.

Another great day to be a Sandie !
